Blue velvet, a syntesthetic supper
with LAB DER MUSIKAn immersive multisensorial dining performance where food, live music, and cinema merged into a single, carefully staged experience. ‘Blue Velvet – A Synesthetic Supper’ drew its aesthetic directly from David Lynch’s visual language: red roses against a white picket fence, the electric glow of neon signs, and the deep, tactile allure of blue and crimson velvet. Hosted at Lab der Musik, a cozy music school in Neukölln, the evening unfolded following the structure of operatic acts, each separated by live performances from professional musicians. The menu acted as a series of edible vignettes, each designed to echo the contrasts and textures of Lynch’s world. Tables dressed in midnight-blue cloths reflected the glow of candlelight and neon, while carefully composed plates blurred the boundary between visual set-piece and culinary delight. By the final act, the supper had become a living scene: a charged, dreamlike frame where taste, sound, and vision existed as one.
